## How to use it

## Details

- **Input:** HEIC, HEIF (iPhone and iPad camera photos, Samsung and Pixel HEIF)
- **Output:** JPG (default, quality 92) or PNG
- **Decoder:** libheif compiled to WebAssembly, ~3 MB, loaded only on this page
- **Limits:** No file count limit. Very large images (above ~16,000 px on a side, or ~250 megapixels on phones) can exceed the browser's canvas limit.

## Questions

### Are my files uploaded?

No. The page loads its code once, then reads and processes your files inside the browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server; you can confirm it in your browser's network panel while a file converts.

### Why does my iPhone save HEIC instead of JPG?

HEIC stores a photo in fewer bytes than JPG at similar quality; in our tests a quality-92 JPG came out 7–54% larger than the HEIC it was made from. You can switch the camera to JPG in Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible; this tool handles the photos you already have.

### Is the photo's location and date kept?

No. The converted JPG is re-encoded from pixels, so EXIF data such as GPS location, camera model and capture date is dropped. That is useful before sharing a photo, but keep the original if you need the metadata.

### How do I open HEIC files on Windows without converting?

Windows 10 and 11 need the HEIF Image Extensions and HEVC Video Extensions from the Microsoft Store; HEVC costs $0.99. Converting to JPG avoids that and works in every app and upload form.

### Can I convert HEIC to JPG on the iPhone itself?

Yes: open this page in Safari, tap the box and choose photos from your library. Safari often hands the page a JPG already; either way you download JPGs to Files.

### What happens to Live Photos and bursts?

A HEIC file holds the still image, which is what you get. The video half of a Live Photo is a separate .mov file and is not converted. For multi-image HEIC files, the primary image is converted.
